Something of a challenge today capturing in flight images of a Common Darter (Sympetrum Striolatum) at 750mm focal length.

Moving to tripod set just above the pond surface, followed the coupling process and tandem flight when a female arrived on the scene.

Eventually they started dipping, depositing eggs, which do in a chosen area of the pond. The more limited zone on which I now had to concentrate meant images of the dipping became a real possibility.

Finally captured the moment of egg deposition and a nice one of them re-ascending.
