Anglesey, UK: “On the Rocks”…Choughs? What Choughs!šŸ˜‚

Second day on the island brought strong, south-westerly winds and a lot of cloud. The rocky inlets at Aberffraw bay bore the full brunt of the wind and made for a challenging session using a long telephoto lens. Shunning the tripod I favour of in-hand so as not to miss the flying birds, I washoping to capture the red-billed chough that I’d seen the day before when in the adjacent Estuary.

Sadly, even with camera in-hand, their tendency to appear suddenly at close quarters, sweeping upwards and over my head on the strong wind meant no useable shots of these striking birds – a project for my next visit.

Marauding Juvenile Herring Gulls.

If ever there was a gull that has perfected the approach ‘why catch it when you can steel it’, it’s the Herring Gull.

These youngsters were marauding everything on the rocks and sandpools the moment they found a crab. A spider crab caused mass consternation.
