Capturing the Hen Harrier: A Birdwatching Experience

Nikon D500 Nikkor 500f4 plus 1.4TC 1/1250s f5.6 ISO 1000

Beautiful male hen harrier at the house yesterday. Classic, seemingly laconic, slow progression down the verges, no more than a metre above the grass. Using the breeze to float, wings up like a paper aeroplane we used to make for our kids.

It then did me the honour of taking a diagonal shortcut across the front of the house, giving an opportunity to capture it a bit closer: I love it when they see you and make that deliberate side-ways glance.

Very poor light so not the optimum shutter speed for flight and still a high iso.
